| The headlight from Central Railroad of New Jersey BLW 4-6-0c #759 sits in a pile of souvenirs at Elizabethport Yard. Bob Collins mentioned that the only railroad shops he visited that did this was the CNJ at Elizabethport. He recalled that 2-8-2s and switchers were lined up a great distance, and the builders plates and other hardware were laying on the ground next to the engines. He recalled that many fans took items. Collins was not a big man and could only handle three builders plates, from 2-8-2s. Might have been a one-time thing by just the E-port people making a good impression. There are accounts of other railroads selling locomotive jewelry on request, but never given away as it was this day on the CNJ. |
