Delaware and Hudson caboose #35703 at Colonie, NY.

This wooden caboose was built in the early 1940s from discarded steam locomotive tenders. It has a full steel under frame and reinforcement beams were added to the ends. These were put to work on the D&H Penn Division, specifically as pusher cabooses, and probably locked knuckles with Consolidations, Northerns, and Challengers before the diesels came in. After the D&H bought the all steel "saddlebag" extended vision cabooses #35710-35719, they were moved to Binghamton where their sturdy frames felt the touch of many an ALCO, GE and EMD product over many years of honest service. They were probably the finest home-built cabooses ever built at the Oneonta Shop.
